A Mesmerizing Journey to the Underworld: Hadestown Teen Edition at Xavier and Brophy College Prep
Hadestown is a Tony Award-winning musical that weaves the ancient myths of Orpheus and Eurydice with Hades and Persephone into a haunting, jazz-infused tale of love, sacrifice, and fate. Set in a post-apocalyptic, industrialized underworld, the show follows Orpheus, a hopeful musician, as he embarks on a dangerous journey to rescue his love, Eurydice, from the depths of Hadestown. With an evocative score blending folk, jazz, and blues, the musical explores themes of perseverance, power, and the price of dreams.

Xavier College Prep, in partnership with Brophy College Prep, delivered a Hadestown Teen Edition that was nothing short of stunning. Phoebe K. led the show as Hermes with incredible jazz vocals and a strong alto voice, guiding the audience through the story with effortless charisma. Aidan H. was the perfect Orpheus, delivering both the emotional depth and soaring tenor required for the role, hitting every high note with precision. As Hades, David R. was cold and commanding, his deep voice and imposing presence capturing the essence of the underworld’s ruler. Alana T. was a standout as Persephone, bringing an infectious energy and a powerhouse performance to the stage. Opposite Orpheus, Adrianna S. gave a heartfelt performance as Eurydice, her sweet soprano beautifully carrying the character’s emotional arc.
Visually, the production was breathtaking. The set design was both innovative and atmospheric, featuring a state-of-the-art stage lift that was cleverly used to represent the railroad to Hadestown. The ensemble’s rhythmic dancing helped drive the story forward, adding another layer of depth to the performance. Meanwhile, the Fates—played by Cecily M., Rania E., and Avery S.—delivered eerily beautiful harmonies that heightened the show’s mystical, foreboding tone.
From start to finish, Xavier and Brophy College Prep’s Hadestown was a masterfully executed production, blending powerful performances, stunning visuals, and a deeply moving score. The cast and crew should be incredibly proud of their work on this ambitious and unforgettable show.
